Ok so when you add fractions, the denominators have to be the same, therefore: (whole numbers you can still add)

5(1/2)+5(1/2)= 10(2/2), which equals to 11.

5(1/2) is also 5.5, since 1/2 is 50/100.

5.5 + 5.5 = 11
