For instance, there's a big birthday party going on. The birthday kid invited his friends over to celebrate. Some of his friends' parents also decides to come over. There are in total of 12 kids currently at the party. We know we have 30 people at the party, but how many adults are there? a + 12 = 30, this gives us 18, which means there are in total of 18 adults at the party.
