A function is a relation between a set of inputs and a set outputs. They have to be related to each other... 
For example
1, 2, 3, 4, 5
2, 4, 6, 8, 10
Those two are a function.

there are 3 main parts of a function no matter what : input "x" also known as the domain, then a "function" which changes each input into an unique output, f(x), the artist formally known as "y" the outputs creates a known set called "range"
