The Embargo Act of 1807 enraged Americans. It hit U.S farmers pretty hard because restrictions were put on imports from from Great Britain.
When the HMS Leopard, a British warship, fired on the USS Chesapeake frigate which was an American ship. The British were looking for deserters from the Royal Navy.
