Why did the Greeks a stabling colonies

Greeks established colonies for many reasons. Among them, probably the most important re that with establishing colonies, they could secure a new location where they could organize trade. When trade was established between the original homeland and the new colony, a new source of revenue was developed which allowed them to prosper.
