Usually using a mirror as a symbol could represent the reflection a character has on past events or on how they view themselves either before or after an event or the story has transpired. Another reason a mirror could be used as a symbol is to show a different world or point of view, one that is similar to our own or the character's but different in some very unique or subtle ways.
