Lysophosphatidylcholines are a class of chemical compounds that stimulate macrophages to undergo phagocytosis. Phagocytosis is the process of ingestion and then digestion of cells by other cells, in this case macrophages. The dying cells are engulfed by macrophages and then destroyed due to the release of lysophosphatidylcholines.
