a student loan you have to pay back, a scholarship you don't. they both pay for college

A student loan is money that is borrow for school with the intent and requirement to be paid back. A scholarship is a sum of money that is awarded to a person for academic use and does not need to be paid back. Both forms of money are given by an organization for another person to use.
