Y varies jointly as x and z, and y = 32 m, x = 6 m, and z = 8 m. what is the value of y when x = 5 m and z = 12 m?

as x = 5 & z=12, 

2/3 = y /(xz) = y/(5*12) 

= y/60 

so y / 60 = 2/3 

y = (2*60)/3 

= 40
