"I don't think Preston Brooks’s punishment was reasonable. Charles Sumner was beaten up until he was UNCONSCIOUS! And Brooks only had to pay $300 fine to the federal court. It took Charles Sumner 3 years until he recovered to return to the Senate. I think he should have gone to jail."
