The answer would be 189 cm².  Multiply the legs of the triangle (12 x 9), and keep that answer.  Usually, to measure the area of a triangle, you would multiply the legs and divide by 2, but since there are two congruent triangles in the same shape here, you don't have to.  Next step would be to add the area of the square in the middle (9 x 9).  Add 12x9 to 9x9 (108 + 81) to get 189.
