What part of the larynx covers the laryngeal inlet during swallowing to keep food out of the lower respiratory passages?

The epiglottis - a flap of elastic tissue that projects upwards behind the tongue and hyoid bone. It closes off the larynx during deglutition (swallowing) to prevent aspiration and direct food down the oesophagus rather than the trachea.
