(2)-(1),

12x + 48y - (12x+ 16y)= 192- 96

12x + 48y - 12x - 16y = 96

32y = 96

y= 96÷32

substituting y=3 in (1),

12x +(16×3) = 96

12x + 48 = 96

12x = 96-48

12x = 48

x= 48÷12

x= 4
