So we replace the -2x in the equation by -5x + 3x:-

5x^2 - 5x + 3x - 3 = 0

Now we factor by grouping:

5x(x - 1) + 3(x - 1) = 0

(x - 1) is common so:

(5x + 3)(x - 1) = 0

Giving x = -3/5 and x = 1.
