The United States called for the Southeast Asian Treaty Organization in 1954. The purpose of this international organization was to prevent the spread of communism by establishing an alliance with nations. Some of the nations that signed under this organization were the United State, France, Britain, Thailand, the Philippines, Pakistan, Australia, and New Zealand.
