Step-by-step explanation:

Given

f(x) = 8x - 9

Then

For a.

f(3y - 1 ) = 8(3y - 1 ) - 9

= 24y - 8 - 9

= 24y - 17

Now for b.

f(x) = - 23

or, 8x - 9 = - 23

8x = - 23 + 9

8x = - 14

x = - 14 / 8

x = - 7 / 4

Hope it will help :)
