how to convert a repeating decimal to a fraction:
example: 0.0833333....
The repeating pattern is 3.

Let x = 0.083333...
Multiply x by 100 so the first repeat is to the right of the decimal point:
100x = 8.333...

Multiply x by 1000 so the first repeat is to the left of the decimal point:
1000x = 83.333...

Subtract the last two equations:
1000x - 100x = 83.333.... - 8.333...
900x = 75
x = 75/900, which is 1/12 in lowest terms.
