In the Middle Ages, the clergy were very influential and played a very important role in the society.

The clergy were supposed to be the the mediators between God and men, they were the religious people made up of the Pope, bishops, priests, monks and nuns.

Moreover, some members of the clergy even had a great deal of power politically.
