Multiply the top equation by three to eliminate y.

3 (x - 3y = 1) -> 3x - 9y = 3
3x - 5y = 11

Subtract the two equations; X cancels out.

Plug y back into any of the equations to find x.

x - 3(2) = 1
x - 6 = 1
x = 7
