how would I solve the system x + 2y = 13, -x + y = 5 when using elimination

Answer:

x + 2y = 13}(add the both eqns)

-x + y = 5}

x +(-x) = 0

2y + y = 3y

13 + 5 = 18

then,

3y = 18

y = 6

from

x + 2y = 13

x = 13 - 2(6)

x = 1
