the slope is   the change in the rise /  change in the run or M= delta Y / delta X

where M =  slope

point 1 = (10,8)  = (x1, y1)

point 2 = (2,7)  = (x2,y2)

slope = y2-y1 / x2 - x1

slope = 7-8 / 2-10

slope = -1 / -2
