Soviets viewed it as creating a defense for themselves, U.S. saw it as an act of increasing influence and challenge their hegemony.

  • Soviets were afraid of future attacks by west on their territory by expanding itself in Europe it was creating a buffer, which will avoid any future skirmish on Soviet.
  • U.S. had enough with the policy of appeasement and isolationism further they experienced that a expanding country will go on a war with them as Germany did.
