How would you argue that viruses are not living things?

Answer:

Viruses cannot replicate on their own, they need a host cell to replicate their own cells. Since they cannot replicate their cells on their own, they are not living. They also do not consume energy like all living things nor do their maintain homeostasis (maintaining a stable inside environment) or more specifically, regulate their own temperature.
