a) distribute the 5 to the x and 4 in parenthesis. this gives you (-5 + 5x + 20)

b) combine -5 and 20, the two constants. this gives you (5x + 15)

You would first do distribution
5(x+4) would give you 5x+20 now that you have that combine like terms giving you 5x+15 because 20-5 or -5+20 is equal to 15
