In Egyptian society, the Pharaoh was the head of government and religion. It was the job of the Pharaoh to lead the people spiritually as he was the physical embodiment of the Gods on earth. This held him responsible for the well-being of his people. Pharaoh owned all of the land, made laws, performed rituals, created temples for worship, defended Egyptians against foreigners, and collected taxes.
