They believed that once you died you would live again in the after life. They were buried with many things that people thought they would need in the afterlife.

In ancient Egypt, tombs were considered as the burial places for royalty. The pyramids that we see in Egypt today are some of the first tombs built for Egyptian kings. Any tomb having a huge pyramids built showed the king's power over his people therefore pharaoh’s earthly possessions were placed in his tomb.
