The sum of two times a number and five is eight

2(x+5)=8

2x+10=8

2x=-2

x=-1

The answer is 1.5

To solve a question like this, you need to put X on one side of the equation and the the numbers on the opposite side.

2x + 5 = 8

To solve for X...
1. subtract 5 from both sides to get 2x = 3
2. divide both sides by 2 to get X by itself
3. x = 1.5
