What was the goal of a successful mercantile system?

I believe the answer is: wealth would flow into a country, rather than out of it.

Mercantilism is an economic principle that see a nation should obtian as much wealth as possible from its foreign relation. This belief is used by European during the colonization era to go out to other countries and colonize that territory in order to obtain cheap labour and resources.
