Answer : When excess of nitric acid is made to react with copper carbonate the following reaction occurs.[tex]CuCO _{3} + 2HNO _{3} ----\ \textgreater \ Cu(NO_{3}) _{2} + H _{2} O + CO_{2} [/tex]

This an example of double displacement reaction and the net ionic equation can be given as :-
[tex]Cu ^{+2} _{(s)} + 2NO _{3} ^{-} _{(aq.)} ----\ \textgreater \ Cu(NO_{3})_{2} _{(aq.)}[/tex]
